Tosoh AIA-PACK: 3D Animation for Immunoassay Testing
Project Overview
For our long-term partner Tosoh Bioscience, we created a detailed 3D animation presenting the AIA-PACK Assays Test Cup - the proprietary reagent technology at the heart of Tosoh's immunoassay platform. Unlike most projects in our portfolio, this was not an animation of an instrument. It was an animation of what happens inside a test cup during an automated immunoassay - a biochemical process that is entirely invisible during normal analyzer operation. The animation follows the complete testing workflow from test cup handling through the internal AIA technology steps to result delivery, making a highly complex diagnostic process understandable for sales teams, laboratory professionals, and marketing audiences worldwide.
The Challenge
The AIA-PACK Test Cup is the core of Tosoh's immunoassay technology, and its value proposition is entirely internal. From the outside, it looks like a small plastic cup. What happens inside during analysis - the sequential biochemical steps, the enzyme reaction, the signal generation - is where the technology's differentiation lives, and none of it is visible to the naked eye. This makes the AIA-PACK a fundamentally different animation challenge compared to instrument visualization. There is no mechanical hardware to model and reveal. The subject is a microscopic biochemical sequence that has to be interpreted, simplified, and translated into a coherent visual narrative without sacrificing scientific credibility. The animation also needed to serve multiple audiences simultaneously: laboratory scientists who understand immunoassay principles in detail, and distributor or marketing contacts who need to grasp why the AIA-PACK technology matters without a biochemistry background.
Our Solution
We created a step-by-step 3D animation that takes the viewer inside the test cup and follows the AIA technology process from start to finish. Through precise modeling, controlled motion, and clear visual hierarchy, the animation shows the extraction and handling of the cup, the key internal biochemical steps, and the pathway to accurate diagnostic results. The visual approach used a distinct aesthetic - separating this animation from standard instrument visualization and giving the internal process its own visual language. The goal was to make an otherwise abstract molecular process feel tangible, memorable, and commercially useful. In parallel, we produced a dedicated holographic version for the Hypervsn platform, adapting the content for spatial display at trade fairs and live exhibitions. The holographic format is particularly effective for this type of content - a floating, glowing biochemical process draws attention in an exhibition environment in a way that a standard screen cannot replicate.
Impact & Results
The AIA-PACK animation became a key visual asset for explaining Tosoh Bioscience's immunoassay technology principle across sales and marketing channels. It supports product communication in contexts where the technology itself - not just the instrument - needs to be the focus of the conversation. The holographic version extended the reach of the content into live exhibition environments, where it serves as an attention-capturing display for Tosoh Bioscience's booth presence at major IVD trade fairs.
What This Project Required
Animating the AIA-PACK Test Cup required a fundamentally different approach than instrument visualization. There is no physical hardware to model from engineering drawings. The subject is a biochemical process, and translating it into 3D animation requires genuine understanding of immunoassay principles - knowing which steps matter, how to represent them at a visual scale that makes them understandable, and where to simplify without misrepresenting the science. This is the kind of project that sits at the boundary between scientific illustration and marketing communication. Getting it right requires both.
