Tosoh Bioscience HLC-723 GR01: 3D Animation for Next-Generation HPLC Diagnostics

Project Overview

For our long-term partner Tosoh Bioscience, we created a comprehensive suite of 3D animations and product visualizations for the global launch of the HLC-723 GR01 - a next-generation HPLC analyzer designed for precise HbA1c measurement and hemoglobin variant detection. The GR01 delivers results in 30 to 50 seconds per sample using ion-exchange liquid chromatography, with a modular architecture that scales from a standalone 90-sample loader up to full integration with high-throughput track-line systems. Communicating this combination of speed, precision, and scalability was the central task.

The Challenge

Ion-exchange liquid chromatography separates hemoglobin fractions at a microscopic level inside the chromatography column. This is where the GR01's analytical precision happens - and it is completely invisible during normal operation. The challenge was to take the viewer inside the column and make the separation process visually understandable without sacrificing scientific accuracy. At the same time, the animation needed to communicate the practical workflow advantages: the auto-buffer change system for continuous operation, the modular sample loading configurations, and the scalability that makes the GR01 relevant for laboratories of very different sizes and throughput requirements. The audience ranged from clinical laboratory scientists and haematologists to procurement managers and international marketing teams - each with a different level of technical background and a different set of questions.

Our Solution

We built a complete digital twin of the HLC-723 GR01 and structured the animation in distinct visual layers. The device exterior is established first, then the animation takes the viewer progressively deeper - into the internal mechanics, then into the chromatography column itself, where the separation of individual hemoglobin fractions is visualized at a level of detail that no camera could achieve. Key sequences cover the auto-buffer change system, the sample loading workflow, and the modular architecture showing how the system scales across configurations. Each sequence is paced to be clear for a non-specialist viewer while remaining credible for a laboratory professional. As with the AIA-CL300, a dedicated holographic version was produced for the Hypervsn platform, deployed at international IVD trade fairs as a centerpiece exhibition element.

Impact & Results

The animation became the primary launch asset for the HLC-723 GR01 across Tosoh Bioscience's global markets. It supports sales presentations, digital campaigns, and trade fair exhibitions, and serves as the definitive visual reference for a product whose core value proposition is invisible to the naked eye. The holographic version extended the impact of the content into live exhibition environments, where it consistently drew attention as one of the most technically sophisticated display formats in the IVD exhibition space.

What This Project Required

Animating the HLC-723 GR01 required detailed understanding of ion-exchange chromatography, HbA1c analysis, and the mechanical logic of modular HPLC systems. The chromatography column sequence in particular demanded close collaboration with Tosoh Bioscience's technical team to ensure that the separation of hemoglobin fractions was represented with the precision that clinical laboratory professionals expect. This is not decorative animation. It is technical communication that has to be correct - because the audience will know if it is not.
